2011-2012: November’s Theme – Houses

This month we are learning all about houses. We have learned about the different types of houses, including  bungalows, semi-detached, flats, houseboats and igloos. We have discussed the houses we live in and also houses other people live in around the world. We are also reading a book called The Village of Square and Round Houses which is about a little girl who lives in a village on the side of a volcano.

Last week during Art, Junior and Senior Infants made a cave from clay while First and Second Classes made a castle. We are really proud of our work.

This week Junior and Senior Infants made a house using Lego. In doing so, we discovered that when building a wall the bricks need to overlap the join of the two bricks underneath it in order to build a strong wall. First and Second classes chose a house of a Nomadic tribe and created it using a variety of cardboard boxes. Some groups made igloos while others made tents.
